While Susannah was occupied visiting some Japanese family friends, the Bryant contingent journeyed to the Arashiyama district of West Kyoto.
There, we first wandered through Kyoto’s great bamboo forest. The enormous stalks towered over us, with some parts of the grove so dense, it was impossible to see where it ended.
Eagle-eyed readers may notice the familiar backs of my parental units in the lower-left corner of the picture.
Also, apparently, a young couple have brought their cat to see the bamboo. Never change, Japan.
The bamboo stalks were so tall they formed a canopy along with the other trees.
It was quite crowded for a day that wasn’t a holiday or weekend.
